Yusuke Osada, a Japanese-British pianist, is currently serving as Associate Professor at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

 

Yusuke has an established career as a soloist, recitalist, and teacher. Born in Tokyo, he moved with his family to London at six months old and began piano lessons at age four. After spending his early childhood in London, Yusuke relocated back to Tokyo at age nine, where he continued his studies at the Toho Gakuen School of Music. Two years later, his family moved to New York, and Yusuke joined the Juilliard School’s pre-college division, studying under Jane Carlson.

 

In 1995, Yusuke and his family returned to the UK, where he attended Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. Upon graduating, he received the prestigious Henry Wood Award, which recognizes the most outstanding student in the piano division.

 

In 2000, Yusuke was accepted into the Berlin University of Arts with the highest audition score ever recorded, where he studied with Pascal Devoyon. He eventually completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Hannover University of Music, Theatre, and Media, studying under Bernd Goetzke and holding a lecturer position until his return to the UK in 2019. Yusuke also held teaching positions at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, continuing in
these roles until 2023.

 

Yusuke’s solo repertoire spans from Baroque to 21st-century music, with a particular focus on Classical literature and a special affinity for Beethoven. In 2014, he performed Beethoven’s 5th Piano Concerto with Symphonica Tywi and was invited back the following year to perform Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto. In 2016, he performed a three-pronged program at the Royal Overseas League, including Bach’s D minor Keyboard Concerto, Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2, and made his conducting debut with Takemitsu’s Requiem. Since his debut at Suntory Hall in Tokyo in 2010, Yusuke has been invited back annually; 2023 will mark his 10th anniversary performing there.

 

Yusuke has given highly acclaimed performances at the world’s most prestigious venues, including Suntory Hall (Blue Rose), Tokyo; Wigmore Hall, London; Concertgebouw (Kleine Zaal), Amsterdam; Bridgewater Hall, Manchester; Keyaki Hall, Tokyo; St. Luke’s, London; and St. James Piccadilly, London.

 

He was the 2nd prize winner at both the Intercollegiate International Beethoven Competition and the International Christopher Duke Memorial Competition, and a finalist at the Dudley International Piano Competition.

 

Yusuke is also an active and experienced chamber musician. He recently formed the London Tokyo Piano Trio, and concert engagements have taken him as far afield as Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

 

Outside of his music, Yusuke has a passion for languages and is fluent in English, Japanese, German, Spanish, and Korean.
